Where did CGEIT® come from?

IT governance is an integral part of enterprise governance. It consists of the leadership, organizational structures and processes to ensure that IT sustains and extends the organization's strategies and objectives.

In 1998, ISACA recognized this shift in emphasis and formed the IT Governance Institute (ITGI) to focus on original research, publications, resources and symposia on IT governance and related topics. To support and promote this significant body of work, ISACA and the ITGI launched the CGEIT® credential in 2007 for professionals charged with satisfying the IT governance needs of an enterprise.

Nearly 5,400 professionals have earned the CGEIT® credential to date.
